ANOTHER SPRINGER SPANIEL

This is Timmy, an English springer spaniel, who just won Best of Breed at one of the all breed dog shows taking place in Italy as part of the FCI World show events. Timmy's "style" is not typical of most show bred English springers currently in the USA, but it is typical of show bred English springers in almost every other country. Timmy looks much more like the American English springers from before the 1960s: long, lobular ears, lots of ticking/freckles, and tolerance for more white on the body are the most obvious differences, but there are more.

How/why did the American English springers change? It changed because of the great success of one breeder's dogs in the show ring starting in the 1960s and continuing for decades.
